Agriculture and tourism is the mainstay of the local economy, which is part of the Llŷn Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and Pen Llŷn a’r Sarnau Special Area of Conservation (SAC). The area is a popular destination for visitors who flock to the splendid beaches of Borth Fawr, Machros, Tywyn y Fach, Porth Ceiriad and Porth Neigwl. They can also sail and walk its footpaths – several are part of the Wales Coastal Path with its splendid views of St. Tudwal’s Islands, Tremadog Bay and the mountains of Snowdonia. There is an assortment of shops and accommodation, as well as renowned restaurants and public houses offering interesting and tasty meals – Indian, Italian, Mexican and Thai – in the area.
